TL;DR
This paper explores how modified gravity theories can offer alternative explanations for white dwarf properties, including cooling, age, and mass limits, using a simple Lane-Emden model within Palatini $f( ext{R})$ gravity.
Contribution
It introduces a new approach to white dwarf physics using modified gravity, deriving the Chandrasekhar limit within Palatini $f( ext{R})$ gravity.
Findings
Modified gravity can explain white dwarf cooling and age.
Chandrasekhar limit derived from Palatini $f( ext{R})$ gravity.
Potential alternative to standard white dwarf models.
Abstract
A few questions related to white dwarfs' physics is posed. It seems that the modified gravity framework can be a good starting point to provide alternative explanations to cooling processes, their age determination, and Chandrasekhar mass limits. Moreover, we have also obtained the Chandrasekhar limit coming from Palatini gravity provided by a simple Lane-Emden model.
