TL;DR
This study reports the first measurement of global polarization of $\Xi$ and $\Omega$ hyperons in Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV, revealing polarization levels that increase with collision peripheralness and align with theoretical vorticity predictions.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental measurement of hyperon polarization in this collision system and compares results with theoretical models, advancing understanding of vorticity in quark-gluon plasma.
Findings
Measured $\Xi$ polarization: 0.47% with uncertainties.
Measured $\Omega$ polarization: 1.11% with uncertainties.
Polarization increases in more peripheral collisions.
Abstract
Global polarization of and hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at = 200 GeV. The measurements of the and hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay , as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter -hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over and , is measured to be for the collision centrality 20\%-80\%. The is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive polarization and in reasonable…
