TL;DR
This paper computes the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude in AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ using bootstrap techniques, revealing how string corrections lift degeneracies in the spectrum and encode all orders in the string tension expansion.
Contribution
It introduces a bootstrap algorithm that constrains the amplitude's alpha' expansion and analyzes the spectrum of exchanged operators, providing explicit results up to order alpha'^9.
Findings
Explicit computation of the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude up to alpha'^9.
Identification of string corrections lifting degeneracies in the spectrum.
Development of a characteristic polynomial encoding all orders in alpha'.
Abstract
The genus zero contribution to the four-point correlator of half-BPS single-particle operators in super Yang-Mills at strong coupling computes the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude of closed superstrings on . Combining Mellin space techniques, the large limit, and data about the spectrum of two-particle operators at tree level in supergravity, we design a bootstrap algorithm which heavily constrains its expansion. We use crossing symmetry, polynomiality in the Mellin variables and the large limit to stratify the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude away from the ten-dimensional flat space limit. Then we analyse the spectrum of exchanged two-particle operators at fixed order in the expansion. We impose that the ten-dimensional spin of the spectrum visible at…
