Victor V. Flambaum, Junlan Jin, and Dmitry Budker

TL;DR
This paper explores the potential for producing pionic atoms via resonance photoproduction using high-intensity gamma-ray beams from the Gamma Factory, enabling unprecedented production rates.
Contribution
It introduces a novel method for direct resonance production of pionic atoms with extremely high rates using gamma-ray beams.
Findings
Potential production rate of up to 10^10 pionic atoms per second.
Feasibility of using Gamma Factory gamma-ray beams for resonance photoproduction.
New approach to studying pionic atoms with high-intensity gamma sources.
Abstract
We present a possibility of direct resonance production of pionic atoms (Coulomb bound states of a negative pion and a nucleus) with a rate of up to per second using the gamma-ray beams from the Gamma Factory.
