Interplay of Probabilistic Shaping and Carrier Phase Recovery for Nonlinearity Mitigation
Stella Civelli, Enrico Forestieri, Marco Secondini

TL;DR
This paper investigates how carrier phase recovery and probabilistic amplitude shaping interact in nonlinear optical communication systems, revealing that phase recovery can achieve similar nonlinearity mitigation as PAS at high SNR.
Contribution
It demonstrates that carrier phase recovery can provide nonlinearity mitigation comparable to short block-length PAS in high SNR regimes.
Findings
Carrier phase recovery achieves similar nonlinearity mitigation as PAS.
High SNR conditions enable phase recovery to effectively mitigate nonlinear effects.
Interaction between phase recovery and PAS is characterized in the nonlinear regime.
Abstract
The interaction between carrier phase recovery and probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) in the nonlinear regime is investigated. We show that, for sufficiently high signal-to-noise ratio, the first provides the same inter-channel nonlinearity mitigation achieved by short block-length PAS.
