TL;DR
This paper reflects on how mathematical research reveals insights about human nature and our place in the universe, drawing from personal experiences and philosophical considerations.
Contribution
It offers a philosophical perspective on the origins and significance of mathematical thought, building on previous work to deepen understanding.
Findings
Mathematics as a reflection of human curiosity and quest for truth
Personal experiences illuminate the philosophical roots of mathematical ideas
Mathematical research influences our understanding of ourselves and the world
Abstract
In this paper, I explore what mathematical research can tell us about ourselves, and our role in the world, using examples from my own experience. The paper is a sequel to my piece "Mathematics is a Quest for Truth", published in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society in 2014.
