ALICE Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports measurements of Z-boson production in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at high energies, comparing results with theoretical models to understand nuclear effects on parton distribution functions.
Contribution
First measurement of Z-boson production in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at these energies, providing data to test nuclear modifications of PDFs.
Findings
Results in p-Pb are consistent with models including nuclear PDFs.
Significant deviation from free-nucleon PDFs in Pb-Pb data without nuclear modifications.
Good agreement with nuclear-modified PDFs in Pb-Pb collisions.
Abstract
Measurement of Z-boson production in p-Pb collisions at TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at TeV is reported. It is performed in the dimuon decay channel, through the detection of muons with pseudorapidity and transverse momentum GeV/ in the laboratory frame. The invariant yield and nuclear modification factor are measured for opposite-sign dimuons with invariant mass GeV and rapidity . They are presented as a function of rapidity and, for the Pb-Pb collisions, of centrality as well. The results are compared with theoretical calculations, both with and without nuclear modifications to the Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs). In p-Pb collisions the center-of-mass frame is boosted with respect to the laboratory frame, and the…
