TL;DR
This paper derives higher-derivative terms in electrodynamics' effective action using a generalized Julia-Toulouse mechanism, revealing the nonlocal nature of the resulting theory.
Contribution
It introduces a novel application of the generalized Julia-Toulouse mechanism to derive nonlocal higher-derivative electrodynamics from topological defect condensation.
Findings
Higher-derivative contributions arise in the effective electrodynamics action.
The effective action is explicitly shown to be nonlocal.
The methodology connects topological defect condensation with modified electrodynamics.
Abstract
In this paper we demonstrate the arising of higher-derivative contributions to the effective action of electrodynamics on the base of generalized Julia-Toulouse mechanism and explicitly show that the complete effective action generated within this methodology is nonlocal.
