TL;DR
This paper reports the first precise measurement of the $ta_c(1S)$ production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV, comparing it to $J//$ production, and measures the mass difference between these states.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed measurement of $ta_c(1S)$ production cross-section and branching fraction ratios at 13 TeV, with the most precise mass difference to date.
Findings
Measured $ta_c(1S)$ production cross-section relative to $J/$.
Determined the ratio of $b$-hadron decay branching fractions to $ta_c(1S)$ and $J/$.
Achieved the most precise measurement of the $ta_c(1S)$-$J/$ mass difference.
Abstract
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of , collected by the LHCb experiment, the production of the state in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of is studied in the rapidity range and in the transverse momentum range . The cross-section for prompt production of mesons relative to that of the meson is measured using the decay mode and is found to be . The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the and decays. The prompt production cross-section is determined to be ${\sigma_{\eta_c(1S)} = 1.26 \pm 0.11\pm…
