TL;DR
This paper presents a phenomenological model for neutron production by muons, including a linear approximation for photonuclear interactions at shallow depths, and compares the results with existing experimental and theoretical data.
Contribution
It introduces a new phenomenological approach and a linear approximation for neutron production in muon interactions at shallow depths.
Findings

Linear approximation simplifies calculations
Results are consistent with theoretical predictions
Abstract
A phenomenological approach for neutron production in fast muon interactions has been considered. Linear approximation for photonuclear production mechanism at shallow depth has been deduced. Present calculations were compared with experimental and theoretical results.
