Teodoro Collin, Gordon Kindlmann, and L. Ridgway Scott

TL;DR
This paper introduces an adaptive Savitzky-Golay filter tailored for smoothing data on multidimensional meshes in finite element computations, enhancing accuracy while preserving smoothness.
Contribution
It extends the Savitzky-Golay filter to multidimensional meshes and develops a SIAC filter suitable for finite-element methods.
Findings
Improved smoothing on multidimensional finite element data
Enhanced accuracy in finite element computations
Maintains smoothness while filtering
Abstract
The smoothing technique of Savitzky and Golay is extended to data defined on multidimensional meshes. A smoothness-increasing accuracy-conserving (SIAC) filter is defined that is suitable for use with finite-element computation.
