Quality of Transmission Estimation for Network Planning: how to handle single-channel nonlinear effects?
Andrea D'Amico, Elliot London, Emanuele Virgillito, Antonio Napoli,, Vittorio Curri

TL;DR
This paper introduces an analytical method to evaluate the nonlinear interference caused by single-channel effects in fiber spans, aiding in more accurate network planning and performance assessment.
Contribution
It presents a novel analytical approach to quantify the SPM component of NLI for improved network planning accuracy.
Findings
Accurately estimates SPM contribution to NLI in fiber spans.
Enables disaggregated evaluation of GSNR degradation.
Supports better network planning decisions.
Abstract
We propose an analytical method to evaluate the equivalent SPM component of the NLI generated by each fiber span, to enabling a fully disaggregated evaluation of the GSNR degradation, as required in network planning.
