Measurement of $J/\psi$ production in association with a $W^\pm$ boson with $pp$ data at 8 TeV
ATLAS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper measures the production rate of prompt $J/\psi$ mesons in association with $W^{\pm}$ bosons at 8 TeV, providing data to test theoretical models of double-parton scattering in proton-proton collisions.
Contribution
First measurement of prompt $J/\psi$ production with $W^{\pm}$ bosons at 8 TeV, offering new data for understanding double-parton scattering mechanisms.
Findings
Measured the ratio of $J/\psi + W^{\pm}$ to inclusive $W^{\pm}$ cross-sections.
Compared experimental results with theoretical predictions for different double-parton-scattering cross-sections.
Provided differential cross-section ratios as a function of $J/\psi$ transverse momentum.
Abstract
A measurement of the production of a prompt meson in association with a boson with and is presented for transverse momenta in the range 8.5-150 GeV and rapidity using ATLAS data recorded in 2012 at the LHC. The data were taken at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of = 8 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb. The ratio of the prompt plus cross-section to the inclusive cross-section is presented as a differential measurement as a function of transverse momenta and compared with theoretical predictions using different double-parton-scattering cross-sections.
