TL;DR
This study searches for eta-mesic helium-3 nuclei using the WASA-at-COSY detector, analyzing decay channels to identify potential bound states, and sets upper limits on their formation cross sections.
Contribution
First analysis of non-mesonic decay channels of eta-mesic helium-3, providing upper limits on formation cross sections and exploring potential bound state signals.
Findings
Slight indication of a bound state signal with width >20 MeV and binding energy 0-15 MeV.
Cross sections consistent with zero within systematic uncertainties.
Upper limits on formation cross sections range from 2 nb to 15 nb.
Abstract
We report on the experimental search for the bound state of an meson and nucleus performed using the WASA-at-COSY detector setup. In order to search for the -mesic nucleus decay, the and channels have been analysed. These reactions manifest the direct decay of meson bound in nucleus. This non-mesonic decay channel has been considered for the first time. When taking into account only statistical errors, the obtained excitation functions reveal a slight indication for a possible bound state signal corresponding to an He- nucleus width above 20 MeV and binding energy between 0 and 15 MeV. However, the determined cross sections are consistent with zero in the range of the…
