Anomaly cancellation in effective supergravity from the heterotic string with an anomalous U(1)
Mary K. Gaillard, Jacob Leedom

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates how specific regulator choices can cancel all conformal and chiral anomalies in an effective supergravity theory derived from heterotic string compactification with an anomalous U(1).
Contribution
It introduces a method using Pauli-Villars regulators to achieve anomaly cancellation in heterotic string effective theories with anomalous U(1).
Findings
All conformal anomalies are canceled.
All chiral anomalies are canceled.
Method applies to Z_3 compactification with Wilson lines.
Abstract
We show that a choice of Pauli-Villars regulators allows the cancellation of all conformal and chiral anomalies in an effective field theory from Z_3 compactification of the heterotic string with two Wilson lines and an anomalous U(1).
