## TL;DR

This paper explores how 3-manifold topology, specifically the Thurston norm on hyperbolic manifolds, can be utilized to develop novel cryptographic schemes for secure communication.

## Contribution

It introduces new cryptographic schemes based on the Thurston norm, bridging topology and cryptography in a novel way.

## Key findings

- Proposed a public-key cryptographic scheme using Thurston norm
- Developed a symmetric-key cryptographic scheme based on 3-manifold topology
- Demonstrated potential security benefits of topology-based cryptography

## Abstract

We discuss some applications of 3-manifold topology to cryptography. In particular, we propose a public-key and a symmetric-key cryptographic scheme based on the Thurston norm on the first cohomology of hyperbolic manifolds.
