## TL;DR

This paper presents a theoretical study on the instability leading to the formation of aeolian sand ripples, using a simplified statistical model to better understand the flow-granular media interaction.

## Contribution

It introduces a new theoretical model to analyze the formation of sand ripples, building on previous numerical results for improved understanding.

## Key findings

- Identifies key parameters influencing ripple formation
- Provides a predictive framework for ripple instability
- Enhances understanding of flow and granular media interaction

## Abstract

The link between external flow and granular media is investigated in view of better understanding the formation of aeolian sand ripples. The study is performed using a simplified, statistical, model based on numerical results obtained elsewhere by O. Dur\'{a}n, B. Andreotti and P. Claudin.
