## TL;DR

The paper proposes that holographic principles are inherently embedded in canonical gravity within asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces, explaining the unique role of gravity and boundary conditions in holography.

## Contribution

It introduces a conjecture linking boundary and bulk solutions in canonical gravity, providing a new perspective on the origin of holography in gravitational theories.

## Key findings

- Holography may be intrinsic to canonical gravity.
- Anti-de Sitter boundary conditions are crucial for holography.
- The conjecture connects boundary data to bulk solutions in gravity.

## Abstract

We conjecture that, in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space, two solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation that coincide asymptotically must also coincide in the bulk. This suggests that the essential elements of holography are already present in canonical gravity. Our argument sheds light on why holography works only in gravitational theories, and also on the significance of anti-de Sitter boundary conditions.
