Influence of Polarization Transformation in Phase Conjugation of Polarization Multiplexed Data using Bragg-Scattering FWM in nonlinear SOAs
Aneesh Sobhanan, Deepa Venkitesh

TL;DR
This paper analyzes how the choice of pump frequency affects polarization-insensitive phase conjugation in nonlinear SOAs, demonstrating that positive detuning ensures unitary transformation crucial for digital signal processing.
Contribution
It provides a theoretical investigation into the impact of pump-signal frequency detuning on polarization transformation, identifying conditions for unitary conjugate generation in SOAs.
Findings
Only positive detuning results in unitary transformation of conjugates.
Negative detuning leads to non-unitary polarization transformation.
The study guides optimal pump frequency selection for polarization-insensitive applications.
Abstract
We theoretically investigate the suitability of the selection of pump frequency () with respect to the signal frequency () for the best polarization insensitive phase conjugate generation through Bragg-scattering based four-wave mixing in nonlinear SOAs. We study the positive detuning () and negative detuning ( scenario for the inherent polarization transformation of conjugate generation at both the ports of SOA. Conjugate generation is desired to be through a unitary transformation for its utility in further digital signal processing, and we prove that only positive detuning conditions result in unitary transformation.
