## TL;DR

This paper discusses the application of precise time-of-flight detectors in proton-proton collisions to improve background rejection and enhance measurements of diffractive and electromagnetic processes, highlighting the benefits of combined timing data.

## Contribution

It introduces the use of advanced ToF detectors for forward physics and analyzes how additional timing from central detectors can improve measurement accuracy and background suppression.

## Key findings

- ToF detectors significantly enhance background rejection in forward physics.
- Combining central and forward timing measurements increases measurement precision.
- The performance gains depend on detector timing resolution and configuration.

## Abstract

The use of precise time-of-flight (ToF) detectors for measurements of diffractive and electromagnetic processes in proton-proton collisions is discussed. The performance of background rejection exploiting the ToF measurements of the forward protons is derived. The influence of additional timing measurements delivered by the central detectors is presented and the possible gain is studied.
