TL;DR
This paper demonstrates real-time transmission of a 3GPP RAN split interface over 20 km using a high-speed PAM4 optical link, showcasing the feasibility of virtualized RAN deployments with high data rates.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental validation of 3GPP split RAN interface transmission over 20 km with 20 Gbit/s PAM4 optics in real-time.
Findings
Successful 20 km transmission at 20 Gbit/s
Real-time operation of virtualized RAN interface
Validation of high-speed PAM4 optical access
Abstract
We experimentally demonstrate real-time, end-to-end transmission of 3GPP's option 2 functional split RAN interface with virtualized central units through up to 20km using a 20Gbit/s PAM4 link and 10GHz bandwidth optics.
