The theorem that was none - II. The profound 70s
Alfred Gautschy

TL;DR
This paper reviews the 1970s research on the Vogt-Russell theorem, discussing the existence and uniqueness of star models, and includes stellar evolution models computed with MESA to illustrate key points.
Contribution
It provides a historical and pedagogical overview of 1970s research on stellar model existence and uniqueness, with new computational models included.
Findings
Research in the 1970s questioned the uniqueness of star models
Stellar evolution models computed with MESA illustrate theoretical points
The paper clarifies the historical development of the Vogt-Russell theorem
Abstract
This second pedagogical installment on the history of the Vogt-Russell theorem focuses on research in the 1970s on the existence and uniqueness of star models. An appendix presents stellar evolution models, computed with the MESA code, in different approximations to emphasize points made in the main text.
