Measurement of exclusive $\Upsilon$ photoproduction from protons in pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} =$ 5.02 TeV
CMS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper measures the exclusive photoproduction of $$ mesons from protons in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at 5.02 TeV, providing differential cross sections and comparing results to QCD predictions.
Contribution
It presents the first measurement of $$(nS) photoproduction cross sections in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at this energy, extending previous studies and testing QCD models.
Findings
Differential cross sections as functions of $p_T^2$ and rapidity are provided.
The $$(1S) cross section is measured in the rapidity range |y|<2.2.
Results are consistent with perturbative QCD predictions.
Abstract
The exclusive photoproduction of (nS) meson states from protons, p (nS)p (with n = 1, 2, 3), is studied in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The measurement is performed using the (nS) decay mode, with data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 32.6 nb. Differential cross sections as functions of the (nS) transverse momentum squared , and rapidity , are presented. The (1S) photoproduction cross section is extracted in the rapidity range 2.2, which corresponds to photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range 91 W 826 GeV. The data are compared to theoretical predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics and to…
