Effect of an absorbing medium on particle oscillations
Valeriy Nazaruk

TL;DR
This paper investigates how particle oscillations are affected by absorbing media, highlighting limitations of the optical potential approach in strong absorption scenarios and comparing different modeling methods.
Contribution
It demonstrates that the optical potential approach fails in strong absorption regions and analyzes alternative Hermitian Hamiltonian models for particle oscillations.
Findings
Optical potential approach is inapplicable in strong absorption.
Hermitian Hamiltonian models predict increased process widths.
Alternative models provide different insights into particle oscillations in absorbing media.
Abstract
Particle oscillations in absorbing matter are considered. The approach based on the optical potential is shown to be inapplicable in the strong absorption region. Models with Hermitian Hamiltonian are analyzed. They give an increase of the process width in comparison with the model based on the optical potential.
