TL;DR
This paper assesses the direct and life cycle emissions of telecom core networks, using British Telecom as a case study, revealing emission levels and their environmental impact.
Contribution
It provides a detailed case study of emissions in a telecom core network, combining direct and life cycle assessments for the first time.
Findings
Total emissions were approximately 22 tCO2e (direct) and 25 tCO2e (LCA) on December 1, 2016.
The study highlights the significance of considering both direct and life cycle emissions in telecom networks.
Case study approach offers insights into environmental impacts of telecom infrastructure.
Abstract
This paper focuses on investigating the direct and life cycle assessment (LCA) emissions in core networks, considering British telecom (BT) core network as a case study. We found that on 1st December 2016, the total BT core network emissions were around 22 tCO2e and 25 tCO2e of direct and LCA emissions, respectively.
