TL;DR
This paper develops a theoretical model for incoherent J/psi photoproduction on nuclei in ultraperipheral collisions, incorporating cross section fluctuations and nuclear shadowing, and compares predictions with LHC data.
Contribution
It introduces a new expression for incoherent J/psi photoproduction cross sections that includes both elastic and dissociative processes, validated against experimental data.
Findings
Predicted cross section agrees with ALICE measurements within uncertainties.
Derived a simple factorized form for the incoherent cross section.
Quantified the impact of nuclear shadowing on J/psi production.
Abstract
Using the general notion of cross section fluctuations in hadron--nucleus scattering at high energies, we derive an expression for the cross section of incoherent photoproduction on heavy nuclei , which includes both elastic and proton-dissociation photoproduction on target nucleons. We find that with good accuracy, can be expressed as a product of the sum of the and cross sections, which have been measured at HERA, and the common nuclear shadowing factor, which is calculated using the leading twist nuclear shadowing model. Our prediction for the cross section of incoherent photoproduction in Pb-Pb UPCs at TeV and ,…
