Boolean Dimension, Components and Blocks
Tam\'as M\'esz\'aros, Piotr Micek, William T. Trotter

TL;DR
This paper studies how Boolean dimension of posets is affected by their components and blocks, showing it behaves similarly to Dushnik-Miller dimension and providing bounds based on local properties.
Contribution
It establishes bounds on Boolean dimension for entire posets based on the Boolean dimension of their components and blocks, highlighting its similarity to Dushnik-Miller dimension.
Findings
Boolean dimension is bounded by a function of component Boolean dimensions.
Boolean dimension is bounded by a function of block Boolean dimensions.
Results contrast with local dimension behavior in similar contexts.
Abstract
We investigate the behavior of Boolean dimension with respect to components and blocks. To put our results in context, we note that for Dushnik-Miller dimension, we have that if for every component of a poset , then ; also if for every block of a poset , then . By way of constrast, local dimension is well behaved with respect to components, but not for blocks: if for every component of a poset , then ; however, for every , there exists a poset with and for every block of . In this paper we show that Boolean dimension behaves like Dushnik-Miller dimension with respect to both components and blocks: if for every component of , then ; also if…
