Prompt inclusive production of $J/\psi$, $\psi'$ and $\chi_{c}$ mesons at the LHC in forward directions within the NRQCD $k_t$-factorization approach - search for the onset of gluon saturation
Anna Cisek, Antoni Szczurek

TL;DR
This paper investigates prompt production of $J/$, $'$ and $$ mesons at the LHC using the NRQCD $k_t$-factorization approach, exploring gluon saturation effects and comparing with experimental data to refine theoretical models.
Contribution
It introduces a modified UGDF scenario within NRQCD $k_t$-factorization to better match experimental data and assesses the role of color-singlet and color-octet contributions in meson production.
Findings
Modified UGDF improves data description at forward rapidities.
Color-singlet contributions suffice to explain $J/$ production within uncertainties.
Evidence suggests possible onset of gluon saturation effects at forward rapidities.
Abstract
We discuss prompt production of mesons in proton-proton collisions at the LHC within NRQCD -factorization approach using Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) unintegrated gluon distributions (UGDF). We include both direct color-singlet production () as well as a feed-down from and decays. The production of the decaying mesons ( or ) is also calculated within NRQCD -factorization approach. The corresponding matrix elements for g, and include parameters of the nonrelativistic space wave functions of the quarkonia at , which are taken from potential models in the literature. We get the ratio of the corresponding cross section ratio for -to- at midrapidities much closer to experimental data than obtained in a recent…
