CMS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports a search for lepton flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson into mu-tau and e-tau modes using CMS data at 13 TeV, setting the most stringent limits to date with no significant excess observed.
Contribution
First search using CMS data at 13 TeV to set upper limits on Higgs lepton flavor violating decays into mu-tau and e-tau modes.
Findings
Upper limit on BR(H→μτ) < 0.25% at 95% CL
Upper limit on BR(H→eτ) < 0.61% at 95% CL
Most stringent limits on LFV Higgs decays to date
Abstract
A search for lepton flavour violating decays of the Higgs boson in the and e decay modes is presented. The search is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb of proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector in 2016, at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant excess over the standard model expectation is observed. The observed (expected) upper limits on the lepton flavour violating branching fractions of the Higgs boson are (H) < 0.25% (0.25%) and (He) < 0.61% (0.37%), at 95% confidence level. These results are used to derive upper limits on the off-diagonal and e Yukawa couplings and at 95%…
