Christian H\"ager, Henry D. Pfister

TL;DR
This paper introduces a new decoding algorithm for staircase codes that minimizes undetected errors, enhances performance, and maintains low complexity, making it suitable for high-speed optical networks.
Contribution
A novel decoding algorithm for staircase codes that reduces miscorrections and improves performance without increasing complexity.
Findings
Significant performance improvement over existing methods
Low-complexity implementation suitable for high-speed applications
Effective reduction of undetected component code miscorrections
Abstract
We propose a novel decoding algorithm for staircase codes which reduces the effect of undetected component code miscorrections. The algorithm significantly improves performance, while retaining a low-complexity implementation suitable for high-speed optical transport networks.
