Symmetry breaking and effective photon mass
Yong-Hae Ko, Gwang-Il Kim, Sok-Hyon Won, Nam-Chol Kim

TL;DR
This paper proposes that photons can gain an effective mass in a medium due to symmetry breaking, based on Chern-Simons gauge theory, which could have implications for understanding photon behavior in various environments.
Contribution
It introduces a novel mechanism for photon mass acquisition through symmetry breaking in media using Chern-Simons gauge theory, expanding theoretical understanding.
Findings
Photon can acquire a finite mass in a medium.
Symmetry breaking leads to effective photon mass.
Chern-Simons gauge theory underpins the proposed mechanism.
Abstract
We suggest a possibility that the photon can acquire a finite mass in a medium when the external interaction and symmetry is broken on the basis of Chern-Simons gauge theory.
