Two-Dimensional Pattern Languages
Henning Fernau, Markus L. Schmid, K. G. Subramanian

TL;DR
This paper extends Angluin's pattern languages to two-dimensional array languages, analyzing their expressive power and closure properties to understand their theoretical capabilities.
Contribution
It introduces new classes of two-dimensional pattern languages and compares their expressive power and closure properties with existing models.
Findings
New classes of 2D pattern languages are defined.
Comparative analysis of expressive power conducted.
Closure properties of these classes are investigated.
Abstract
We introduce several classes of array languages obtained by generalising Angluin's pattern languages to the two-dimensional case. These classes of two-dimensional pattern languages are compared with respect to their expressive power and their closure properties are investigated.
