## TL;DR

This paper calculates the neutron-proton capture cross section at threshold using various realistic scattering wave functions, showing it can be described without meson exchange currents.

## Contribution

It introduces a detailed calculation of the neutron capture process using multiple realistic potentials, highlighting the sufficiency of single-nucleon contributions.

## Key findings

- Cross section calculations align with experimental data.
- Meson exchange currents are not necessary at threshold.
- Different potential models yield consistent results.

## Abstract

Cross section of the neutron capture reaction $n+p\rightarrow d+\gamma$ at threshold was calculated with different realistic $^{3}S_{1}$ deuteron and $^{1}S_{0}$ $np$ scattering wave functions stemming from Nijmegen-II, JISP16, Paris, Idaho and Moscow (with forbidden states) potentials. It is found that this reaction with thermal neutrons may be described without a contribution of meson exchange currents.
