Contribution
It provides the first detailed estimation of the optical Costas loop's pull-in range and highlights the difficulties in numerical analysis caused by hidden oscillations.
Findings
Pull-in range estimated analytically and numerically
Hidden oscillations complicate numerical analysis
Discussion of phase space dynamics
Abstract
In this work we consider a mathematical model of the optical Costas loop. The pull-in range of the model is estimated by analytical and numerical methods. Difficulties of numerical analysis, related to the existence of so-called hidden oscillations in the phase space, are discussed.
