## TL;DR

This paper reviews experimental measurements of charged pion dipole polarizabilities, discusses discrepancies among data, and highlights the impact of including the sigma-meson in theoretical models, especially on recent COMPASS results.

## Contribution

It provides a comprehensive analysis of experimental data and theoretical corrections, emphasizing the role of the sigma-meson in polarizability calculations.

## Key findings

- Discrepancies exist among experimental measurements.
- Including the sigma-meson significantly alters polarizability values.
- The latest COMPASS results are notably affected by sigma-meson corrections.

## Abstract

We discuss main experimental works, where dipole polarizabilities of charged pions have been determined. Possible reasons for the differences between the experimental data are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the account of the $\sigma$-meson gives a significant correction to the value of the polarizability obtained in the latest experiment of the COMPASS collaboration.
