TL;DR
This paper presents the first measurement of the fraction of $J/$ mesons originating from $B$-meson decays in $p$+$p$ collisions at 510 GeV, using advanced vertex detectors to distinguish decay sources.
Contribution
It provides the first measurement of $F_{B}J/$ at this energy and compares it with higher energy data and theoretical models.
Findings
Measured $F_{B}J/$ is 8.1% with uncertainties.
Extracted $b\bar{b}$ cross section is $3.63^{+1.92}_{-1.70}\mu$b.
Results are consistent with theoretical predictions.
Abstract
We report the first measurement of the fraction of mesons coming from -meson decay () in + collisions at 510 GeV. The measurement is performed using the forward silicon vertex detector and central vertex detector at PHENIX, which provide precise tracking and distance-of-closest-approach determinations, enabling the statistical separation of due to -meson decays from prompt . The measured value of is 8.1\%2.3\% (stat)1.9\% (syst) for with transverse momenta GeV/ and rapidity . The measured fraction at PHENIX is compared to values measured by other experiments at higher center of mass energies and to fixed-order-next-to-leading-logarithm and color-evaporation-model predictions. The cross section per unit…
