TL;DR
This paper investigates the photoproduction mechanisms of the $B_c^{(*)}$ meson at the LHeC, including gluon-induced and extrinsic heavy quark channels, providing detailed predictions and uncertainties for event yields.
Contribution
It offers a comprehensive analysis of $B_c^{(*)}$ meson photoproduction at the LHeC, highlighting the significance of extrinsic heavy quark mechanisms and quantifying expected event numbers.
Findings
Extrinsic heavy quark channels significantly contribute at low and intermediate $p_T$.
Approximately 1.04×10^5 $B_c$ and 4.86×10^5 $B_c^*$ events predicted per year.
Theoretical uncertainties due to heavy quark masses are quantified.
Abstract
We make a detailed study on the photoproduction mechanism of the doubly heavy flavored meson at the purposed Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. In addition to the photoproduction mechanism via the gluon-induced channel , the extrinsic heavy quark mechanism via the two channels and has also been studied. Those two extrinsic channels are generally suppressed by the heavy quark distribution functions in proton, which however provide significant contributions in low and intermediate region. A detailed comparison of those channels together with the theoretical uncertainties has been presented. By summing up all the mentioned photoproduction channels, we observe that about …
