Network coding and spherical buildings
Dirk Liebhold, Gabriele Nebe, Angeles Vazquez-Castro

TL;DR
This paper introduces a novel network coding approach using flags of subspaces and a new Grassmann distance on flags, enhancing error correction in network channels.
Contribution
It develops a network coding method based on flags of subspaces and introduces a new Grassmann distance, comparing it to existing metrics for improved error correction.
Findings
Defined a new Grassmann distance on flags.
Compared the Grassmann distance to gallery distance.
Established a new network channel model for coding.
Abstract
We develop a network coding technique based on flags of subspaces and a corresponding network channel model. To define error correcting codes we introduce a new distance on the flag variety, the Grassmann distance on flags and compare it to the commonly used gallery distance for full flags.
