TL;DR
This paper presents a compact gantry system designed for proton and ion beam irradiation of lying patients, utilizing combined magnet rotation and patient movement to simplify the magnetic system while maintaining precise irradiation from multiple directions.
Contribution
The paper introduces a novel compact gantry design that integrates patient movement with magnet rotation to reduce system complexity and improve irradiation accuracy.
Findings
Simplified magnetic system due to combined rotation and linear motion
Maintains irradiation focus from multiple directions
Potential for more compact and efficient gantry systems
Abstract
We describe here a compact gantry system, when the lying patient is slowly moved in horizontal and vertical directions in accordance with rotation of transport channel around its axis so that the region, irradiated from different directions, stays in a focus of beam optical system. By this combination of rotation of magnets and linear motion of patient it becomes possible to simplify magnetic system significantly.
