Exclusive pi+ pi- production at 7TeV
Mohsen Khakzad

TL;DR
This paper measures the exclusive production of charged pion pairs in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV using the CMS detector, providing cross sections and differential distributions to compare with theoretical models.
Contribution
It presents the first measurement of exclusive $ m \pi^{+} m \pi^{-}$ production at the LHC with detailed differential cross sections and comparison to phenomenological predictions.
Findings
Measured total cross section: 20.5 μb with uncertainties.
Differential cross sections as functions of invariant mass, p_T, and rapidity.
Results are compared with several theoretical models.
Abstract
We report a measurement of the exclusive production of pairs of charged pions in proton-proton collisions, dominated by the process , where stands for a diffractively dissociated proton, the pair is emitted at central rapidities , and the incident protons stay intact or dissociate without detection . The measurement is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 450~b collected at a center-of-mass energy of = 7 TeV in 2010. The cross section measured in the phase space defined by pion transverse momentum ~GeV/c and rapidity is found to be ~0.8~(lumi)~b. The differential cross sections for pairs as a function…
