Introduction: Cognitive Issues in Natural Language Processing
Thierry Poibeau (LaTTICe), Shravan Vasishth

TL;DR
This paper introduces a special issue exploring the bidirectional relationship between computational linguistics and cognitive science, focusing on how each field informs and influences the other in understanding language and cognition.
Contribution
It highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research in advancing both computational language models and cognitive science theories.
Findings
Identifies key questions about the influence of cognitive science on NLP.
Emphasizes the mutual benefits of integrating cognitive insights into computational models.
Calls for further research on the interplay between cognition and language processing.
Abstract
This special issue is dedicated to get a better picture of the relationships between computational linguistics and cognitive science. It specifically raises two questions: "what is the potential contribution of computational language modeling to cognitive science?" and conversely: "what is the influence of cognitive science in contemporary computational linguistics?"
