Painlev\'e IV and a third-order viewpoint
P.L. Robinson

TL;DR
This paper explores a third-order perspective on the fourth Painlevé equation, highlighting its potential benefits for understanding other second-order ODEs in the Painlevé-Gambier list.
Contribution
It introduces a third-order approach to Painlevé IV and suggests its applicability to a broader class of second-order ODEs in the Painlevé-Gambier classification.
Findings
Third-order framework offers new insights into Painlevé IV.
Potential extension to other Painlevé-Gambier equations.
Highlights the value of higher-order perspectives in ODE analysis.
Abstract
We take a third-order approach to the fourth Painlev\'e equation and indicate the value of such an approach to other second-order ODEs in the Painlev\'e-Gambier list of 50.
