M\"obius strips before M\"obius: Topological hints in ancient representations
Julyan H. E. Cartwright, Diego L. Gonz\'alez

TL;DR
The paper explores historical representations that resemble M"obius strips predating their formal discovery, revealing that such topological objects appeared in ancient artifacts and illustrations.
Contribution
It uncovers evidence of M"obius-like structures in ancient representations, predating their formal mathematical discovery in 1858.
Findings
Ancient artifacts contain M"obius-like structures
Historical illustrations hint at topological understanding
Pre-1858 representations of M"obius strips identified
Abstract
August M\"obius discovered his eponymous strip --- also found almost contemporaneously by Johann Listing --- in 1858, so a pre-1858 M\"obius band would be an interesting object. It turns out there were lots of them.
