TL;DR
This paper models the photoproduction of scalar mesons $f_0(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ off nucleons using effective Lagrangians and Regge theory, fitting parameters to data and exploring resonance effects.
Contribution
It applies a unified Regge-based approach to both $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(500)$ photoproduction, including the impact of nucleon resonances on the latter.
Findings
Regge model successfully reproduces $f_0(980)$ data
N*(1440) and N*(1680) resonances significantly affect $f_0(500)$ production
Low threshold energy makes nucleon resonances important in $f_0(500)$ photoproduction
Abstract
We investigate photoproduction of the scalar mesona off the nucleon, using the effective Lagrangians and the Regge approach. We first study photoproduction, replacing the Feynman propagator with the Regge ones for the -meson exchange in the -channel. The model parameters are fixed by reproducing the experimental data on the differential cross section. We then apply the same method to or photoproduction with the same parameters for the Regge propagator. Since the threshold energy of the production is rather low, resonances, which can decay into the nucleon and two pions in the isoscalar and scalar state, can come into play in the -channel. To examine the effects of the resonances, we set up two models to look into the respective contribution of the resonances. We find that in particular and …
