Rafa{\l} Staszewski, Janusz J. Chwastowski

TL;DR
This paper investigates the semi-exclusive measurement of photon-photon scattering at high energies, considering different production modes and using simulations to analyze potential signals and backgrounds, including a hypothetical resonance.
Contribution
It introduces a detailed study of semi-exclusive $ o o$ photon scattering with forward proton detection, including simulations for a potential 750 GeV resonance signal.
Findings
Semi-exclusive measurement techniques can effectively probe $ o o$ photon scattering.
Simulations show distinguishable signals for the hypothetical resonance.
Background processes are manageable with forward proton detection.
Abstract
The two-photon production of photon pairs, i.e. the process, is studied. Different production modes regarding the elastic or inelastic coupling of the intermediate-state photons to the protons are considered. The semi-exclusive measurement, where one intact proton is registered by a dedicated forward proton detector, is discussed. As an example, the signal and background simulations are performed for the process mediated by the hypothetical 750 GeV resonance.
