On gauged maximal d=8 supergravities
Oscar Lasso Andino, Tomas Ortin

TL;DR
This paper analyzes all possible SO(3) gaugings in maximal 8-dimensional supergravity using the embedding tensor formalism, demonstrating their equivalence via SL(2,R) duality and explicitly constructing the bosonic actions including Chern-Simons terms.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive classification of SO(3) gaugings in d=8 supergravity and shows their equivalence through SL(2,R) duality, explicitly constructing the bosonic actions for all cases.
Findings
All SO(3) gaugings are related by SL(2,R) duality.
Explicit bosonic actions including Chern-Simons terms are constructed.
Different 11D origins of the theories are shown to be dual.
Abstract
We study the gauging of maximal supergravity using the embedding tensor formalism. We focus on SO gaugings, study all the possible choices of gauge fields and construct explicitly the bosonic actions (including the complicated Chern-Simons terms) for all these choices, which are parametrized by a parameter associated to the 8-dimensional SL duality group that relates all the possible choices which are, ultimately, equivalent from the purely 8-dimensional point of view. Our result proves that the theory constructed by Salam and Sezgin by Scherk-Schwarz compactification of supergravity and the theory constructed in Ref.~\cite{AlonsoAlberca:2000gh} by dimensional reduction of the so called ``massive 11-dimensional supergravity'' proposed by Meessen and Ort\'{\i}n in Ref.~\cite{Meessen:1998qm} are indeed related by an SL duality even though…
