Contribution
It introduces a novel application of Tabu Search for pole shape optimization and compares various parameterizations for improved convergence.
Findings
Tabu Search effectively optimizes pole shapes.
Different parameterizations impact convergence speed.
The method shows promising results for MRI electromagnet design.
Abstract
The pole shape optimization of an electromagnet typical of an MRI type application is investigated. We compare the use of different parameterizations of the pole shape and compare the convergence of the optimizations using a discrete variable step length Tabu Search scheme.
