Photoproduction of the $f_1(1285)$ Meson
R. Dickson, R. A. Schumacher (CLAS Collaboration)

TL;DR
This study reports the first measurement of the $f_1(1285)$ meson in photoproduction, determining its properties, decay channels, and production mechanism, providing new insights into its structure and interactions.
Contribution
The paper presents the first photoproduction measurement of the $f_1(1285)$ meson, including its mass, width, decay modes, and production mechanism, distinguishing it from similar states.
Findings
Mass and width consistent with $f_1(1285)$ identity
Production mechanism favors $s$-channel decay of $N^*$
Decay predominantly via $a_0^\pm(980)\pi^\mp$ states
Abstract
The meson with mass MeV/ and width MeV (FWHM) was measured for the first time in photoproduction from a proton target using CLAS at Jefferson Lab. Differential cross sections were obtained via the , , and decay channels from threshold up to a center-of-mass energy of 2.8 GeV. The mass, width, and an amplitude analysis of the final-state Dalitz distribution are consistent with the axial-vector identity, rather than the pseudoscalar . The production mechanism is more consistent with -channel decay of a high-mass state, and not with -channel meson exchange. Decays to go dominantly via the intermediate states, with the branching ratio $\Gamma(a_0\pi \text{ (no} \bar{K} K\text{)}) /…
