Contribution
It introduces a new analytical framework for understanding topologically protected photonic states in continuous dielectric structures with domain walls.
Findings
Analytical theory successfully describes topologically protected states.
Numerical simulations confirm theory in 3D structures.
Potential for robust photonic device applications.
Abstract
We present an analytical theory of topologically protected photonic states for the two-dimensional Maxwell equations for a class of continuous periodic dielectric structures, modulated by a domain wall. We further numerically confirm the applicability of this theory for three-dimensional structures.
