Chief factors of Lie algebras
David A. Towers

TL;DR
This paper surveys the properties of chief factors in Lie algebras, highlighting their potential importance in understanding Lie algebra structure through representation theory.
Contribution
It introduces the concept of chief factors in Lie algebras and discusses their properties, extending ideas from group theory to Lie algebra analysis.
Findings
Chief factors help analyze Lie algebra structure.
Properties of chief factors are analogous to those in group theory.
Potential applications in representation theory of Lie algebras.
Abstract
In group theory the chief factors allow a group to be studied by its representation theory on particularly natural irreducible modules. It is to be expected, therefore, that they will play an important role in the study of Lie algebras. In this article we survey a few of their properties.
